Empowering Families, One Blood Test at a Time: Elder’s Journey with the Handheld Blood Analyzer

The Raymond A. Wood Foundation is proud to highlight Elder, the latest recipient a handheld blood analyzer. At just 12 years old, Elder has faced challenges most of us cannot imagine, yet his story is one of resilience, faith, and hope.

In 2018, Elder was diagnosed with a craniopharyngioma, a rare brain tumor. During his surgery, he experienced massive bleeding and cardiac arrest, leaving him with multiple complications and disabilities. Despite the tumor being inoperable, Elder and his family remain hopeful, finding strength in their faith and each other.

Monitoring his health, particularly his sodium and electrolyte levels, is crucial for Elder’s well-being. Thanks to the handheld blood analyzer provided by the Raymond A. Wood Foundation, his family can now perform these checks at home with ease and accuracy. The device has been a game-changer, significantly improving Elder’s care and providing his family with peace of mind.

Elder’s mother shares, “The handheld blood analyzer has marked a before and after for us. It has been extremely useful, making it much easier to monitor his electrolyte levels, especially sodium.”

Despite his health challenges, Elder is a bright and joyful boy with big dreams. He loves baseball, music, and spending time with loved ones. He has unwavering faith and aspires to be both a doctor and a preacher, embodying hope and inspiration for others.

This story reminds us why the Handheld Blood Analyzer program is so vital. It empowers families like Elder’s to manage complex medical needs at home, improving their quality of life and easing the burden of care.

We are grateful to our donors and supporters who make this program possible. Because of you, we can continue to provide essential tools to families navigating life with rare brain tumors and related complications.
