Amy Mathies

Amy is the mother of a craniopharyngioma survivor living in Japan. After her daughter was diagnosed with craniopharyngioma at the age of 5, Amy developed an interest in understanding the disease and gathering practical tips to address the daily challenges that survivors face.

Thanks to excellent medical care and support from the local community, her daughter has grown into an independent adult able to pursue her dreams. Amy is dedicated to facilitating information sharing, community building, and patient-centered research to enhance the quality of life for survivors and caregivers.

Amy is a Japanese scientist with extensive biomedical research experience in the pharmaceutical industry, academia, and bio-ventures in Japan, the US, and Switzerland. She has also worked at a public think tank (Center for Research and Development Strategy) and a public funding agency (Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development) to promote biomedical research in Japan and foster international collaboration.

She holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and Biophysics from Iowa State University, an M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Science from Showa Women’s University in Japan.
